Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter opened its doors in February 2015 offering safe emergency accommodation and support services to women facing domestic violence and homelessness.

HKWS offers accommodation for a period of three months with an expert team of professionals providing tailored case management to help women reclaim their lives and create a safe and happy future. This includes access to health, legal, education and employment services.

The Shelter can support up to 10 women at a time. Women who cannot be immediately housed can access the HKWS Outreach Program.

HKWS also supports and manages Beecroft House which is a Shelter for women aged 55+ years and has a capacity for 17 women. In addition to the Shelters, HKWS also provides outreach services for past Shelter clients or women with their own accommodation needing additional support.

Part of the Women’s Community Shelter’s network whose funding model involves a collaboration between business, philanthropic foundations, local communities and the NSW and Commonwealth Government.

HKWS is a registered charity. We rely on the generosity and kindness of people and businesses in our community.

B

A Bright Future for Yvonne

Yvonne fled her violent husband and established a new life with her teenage children. Underweight, anxious and with no financial security, Yvonne struggled to make ends meet. On the brink of homlessness, Yvonne turned to HKWS for help.

B

A New Beginning for Kate

The death of her two sons led to the breakdown of Kate’s family. Her husband began abusing her and Kate turned to the solace of alcohol to mask the pain of her situation. On the verge of a breakdown, HKWS was there to help Kate recover and turn her life around.

B

A Safer Path for Sara

When Sara was aged 35 years, she arrived at Hornsby Kuringgai Women’s Shelters after she decided to end her  marriage of 14 years. The terrible trauma of a miscarriage, which was caused by violence, meant Sara finally found the courage and strength to leave.

What’s On

gem ‘give every month’ program

The GEM Program has been created to celebrate and grow the special community of people (existing and new) who are giving on a monthly basis to the shelter. This program is a collaboration with Turramurra & Lindfield Community Bank.

Thanks to Turramurra & Lindfield Community Bank, all new GEM supporters will have their first month’s donation MATCHED. Dollar for dollar.

It’s easy to become a GEM. Simply sign up via our GEM regular giving donation page here! If you’d prefer to give via direct debit, you can contact our team to arrange this at ua.gro.swkh@eciffo

GEMs are the backbone of the HKWS family – providing regular, sustainable income that we can rely on. They are kind, compassionate and committed to helping women and children in our community who are escaping domestic abuse and homelessness.

SINGING IN SEQUINS

An ‘a cappella’ extravaganza, with all proceeds donated to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter!

It will be held at the Mosman Art Gallery on Sunday August 6 at 6:30pm.

Special guests James Hart and community choir The Bay Singers.
